Dominic and Adam's Wedding on August 19, 2017 in Hull
An
Unforgettable Date
Hull is a city located in the east of Yorkshire in England.
There is a river called the Hull River which meets the Humber estuary. The city
was declared in 2013 as the City of Culture of the United Kingdom of 2017. The
award is given every four years to a city that demonstrates the belief in the
power of transformation of culture. Formerly Hull was reputed to be a not very
interesting place, in fact, in the city there were not many places of interest
and it seemed all a bit boring. Nowadays the city is modern and has a wide
variety of restaurants, theatres, galleries, museums and many independent
shops, which make Hull a place of great interest. Certainly a city that is
worth a visit.
As an example I would like to name places such as Hull Town Hall, where there are many events ranging from classical concerts to pop
concerts, comedy, conferences, exhibitions and other ceremonies.
We also have the "Hands on History" museum in the
former Grammar School building where William Wilberforce studied. This museum
houses the history of Hull and his people. It also includes a fascinating
glimpse of Victorian times, the history of Hull and also features an Egyptian
gallery.
We can also speak of "Gallery Forty-Nine", an
independent gallery located in a Georgian building in the heart of Bridlington,
not far to the city of Hull. This gallery has four exhibition spaces featuring
a variety of paintings, sculpture, jewellery and pottery by contemporary British
artists and a wide range of works in wood, metal and textiles. In the print
gallery you can find limited edition prints by Sir Peter Blake, David Hockney,
Sir Terry Frost, Barbara Rae, Alan Davie and more.
Kiko, my boyfriend and I, took August 18th, as a holiday, to
travel to Hull and attend the wedding of our friends Dominic and Adam. This
would take place the following day. It seemed as if our summer vacation had
been extended, it was a fun trip.
My friend Dominic has lived in Hull for almost fifteen
years. He used to live in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a teacher of Latin and of
ancient history in a private school. I've known Dominic for about 17 years. We
met in London and became friends very quickly. I have countless fun memories of
ourselves and of other friends in my mind. Recently we still laughed a lot
talking about how we met (taking Japanese calligraphy classes).
Dominic works at Hymers College in Hull. Dominic is an
excellent teacher and a great friend with a big heart. He has made many friends
and acquaintances in Hull, but he has never forgotten his friends in London. We
have always maintained our friendship. I visited him in Edinburgh and also in
Hull several times and he came to London also many others.
Ten years ago, Dominic met Adam, and on August 19th, this
year, they got married. Adam became Mr. McPherson, he took Dominic’s surname.
Adam is a very cheerful young man, a lot younger than Dominic. He and Dominic
had been dating for almost ten years, have lived together as a couple for a
long time. They know each other very well because they have gone through many
adventures and experiences together.
I spent many moments with them at parties, festivals,
dinners and other doings. Adam always has a smile on his face with something
funny to tell. Adam is always happy. I also have many memories of him from the
various meets we had. I always laughed a lot with him. It is always a pleasure
to have Adam and Dominic close to us and we really enjoy it when they come to
our house in London. Adam works as an account manager at a company called Arco
Ltd. He is a real star.
Dominic and Adam bought a very beautiful house where we
stayed for the weekend. They have two cats and both are females, one called
Thelma and the other Louise. One has a fingerless leg, and it limps a little.
Both are incredibly cute, loving and beautiful. They are their girls.
Kiko and I were invited to stay at their house over the
weekend. It was a privilege, we were like kings. The day after their wedding in
the morning, after we showered, we found fresh coffee on a tray on top of our
bed. How beautiful! When we got to the train station in Hull, they both came to
greet us with a big smile. We arrived at noon and had a beer there at the
station hotel while we were already having fun and joking about the wedding –
very lovingly though.
Kiko and I had a wedding present for them that we brought from
London in a very large box. We gave them the gift, which was an antique mirror
we bought from a friend of ours who is an artist. Her name is Jo Gibbs. She
retrieves old and abandoned things and draws very beautiful models and patterns
on them through a technique that only she knows. They liked the mirror a lot.
We went home to leave our bags and then walked around town
for a bit and ate fish and chips, something very English. We visited the marina
area and were in front of the Hull River where the sun shone nicely. The Hull
River is very large and has many factories and industries around it. It's
actually a little sad because everything gets a little grey because of the
industrial smoke. The sun was very beautiful and warm and we stayed there on a
bench talking about our little things. We continued to walk around town until
we got tired and went home to rest.
Later we went to the bar and restaurant where the wedding
would take place the next day - Furley & Co, a much recommended spot. There
we met Adam's father and brother and also his father's girlfriend and his
brother's girlfriend. All of them very kind. They were preparing things for the
wedding day. Then we took a taxi to meet with Dominic and other friends
elsewhere called Pave, also highly recommended. There was Mike and Tony, Martin
and his wife, Martin was their best man. He is a very funny and kind guy. There
was also Marc, Leana, Jack, Colin and his wife, James and her husband, Tim and
Becs amongst many others, all of them friends. I could not forget to mention
Dominic's family, his sister Alex, her husband Lee, and their three gorgeous
daughters, Dominic's nieces.
That night was no joke, marriage would happen the next day
and we had to be good children. Dominic and Adam did not sleep together that
night because the next morning they would be getting married. It would bring
bad luck otherwise. Kiko and I spent the night at their house but only with
Adam. Dominic slept in Martin's house.
And it all happened the next morning in the registration office
room in "The Guildhall." It was a spectacular and emotional ceremony,
I almost cried. We then went to the Furley & Co restaurant all day to eat,
drink and celebrate this special event. Martin, the best man, gave a
presentation, of stories, memories and adventures of both Dominic and Adam,
very beautiful and emotional. Alex, Dominic's sister, gave a speech of memories
and familiarities of when they were kids - also very emotional and fine. I
really liked Alex's speech.
It was late evening when we went home to rest, but Dominic
and Adam still had to open the presents and many wedding cards with
congratulations, which they received from the guests. With much joy and love
they stayed there until later and we went to bed.
The next day the party was going on but not with everyone.
Already many had gone home. Those who remained stayed in the Pave restaurant
and had breakfast together and were there until each went home, ours in London.
Marc and we took the same train and so the party came to an end.
Love is not something you find. Love finds you.
Congratulations to you both Dominic and Adam and be happy forever.
